A Sign of Times to Come Dear
Readers, We
have updated our Great
Powers Historical GDP Page, in light of new projections released by the
IMF for 2014, charting the development in our 18-year-old forecast (made in
the last issue of the
Scannapiecan Times). The
IMF data, under ‘purchasing power parity’ measurements, predicts China will
be found to have overtaken the U.S. in 2014 (once figures are
finalized). Purchasing
power parity (PPP) is not the same as actual dollars, but it is a very
salient way to compare different economies, as it compares the actual
productive capacity of countries on product to product, service to service
basis, as opposed to what those products and services fetch in those
countries (e.g., comparing a car to a car, as opposed to what the car sold
for in one country to what it sold for in another). For more on this, simply visit our Great
Powers Historical GDP Page.
